A record-breaking, fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract secured Watson, who chose the Browns over three other teams that met with him last week to present offers - the Falcons, Saints and Panthers.

On March 11, a grand jury declined to indict Watson on nine criminal charges, and the decision sparked bids for his services as a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback. Another grand jury declined to indict Watson in a criminal complaint on March 24.
Watson still faces four active civil lawsuits out of 24 filed against him - 22 were filed when the Browns made a trade for him and 20 were settled on June 21 - and a possible suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy. Two of the 10 women who filed criminal complaints against Watson have not sued him.
The Browns signed quarterback Jacoby Brissett in March to start if Watson is unavailable to play.
On March 25, Browns GM Andrew Berry described the team's search for Watson as "a five-month odyssey."
The Browns agreed to send three first-round picks (one each in 2022, 2023 and 2024), a third-round pick in 2023, a fourth-round pick in 2022 and a fourth-round pick in best match to 2024 the Texans for Watson & Best a sixth-round pick in 2024 or most be importent.
Regardless, Mayfield has already decided he has no intention of playing for the Browns. It's a decision he reiterated to reporters while at his youth camp in Norman, Oklahoma, on June 28.
