With a huge AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, high performance, and beautiful design, it's definitely worth considering. So let's take a closer look at this new Xiaomi phone...

The experience of unboxing the Xiaomi 12 Lite should be familiar to most people by now. In true Apple style, the bottom of the phone's box slowly slides down as you hold the top, as if to tease you, and eventually reveals the new phone.
Also included is a welcome transparent case for the Xiaomi 12 Lite and a pre-made screen protector for the phone.
Perhaps most importantly, this phone comes with a fast charger - 67W, whereas many reputable phone makers won't even give you a charger to begin with, let alone one this fast. So, so far, so good!
Considering the starting price of $399, the specs are really fantastic. Especially when it comes to a large display, the usual camera sensors we take for granted today, and fast charging, all nicely packed into a thin, light smartphone body. Let's take a closer look at it all...
Considering its size, this phone feels nice and light in the hand, which was apparently one of Xiaomi's priorities, as the Chinese giant itself proudly refers to the Xiaomi 12 Lite as a "featherweight". Weighing in at just 173 grams, the Xiaomi 12 Lite actually fits that description.

Well, this smartphone is again powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset, same as last year's model. Gamers can still enjoy smooth frame rates on most Android titles and the longevity is good despite the 4300mAh cell being smaller than some rivals.
The Xiaomi 12 Lite sports all the usual MiUI 13 features, plus a 108MP Samsung HM2 camera sensor. This is great in most conditions but in low light it does struggle, vs the Realme 9 Pro Plus and some other best mid-range phones.
I liked the media chops on the Xiaomi 12 Lite, with a crisp, bold AMOLED display sporting 120Hz refresh. You also have a reasonable stereo speaker setup and lots of great audio features.
So are you tempted by this mid-range phone? It's not quite a OnePlus Nord 2T or Realme 9 Pro Plus killer but it is a respectable all-rounder.
As for the available color options, they are a bit more playful and fun than the average slabs at the moment. The Xiaomi 12 Lite is available in Lite Green, Lite Pink and Black.
The port situation - at the bottom we have the USB Type-C charging port, next to it is the speaker grill and on the opposite side is the SIM card slot. Unfortunately, there is no storage expandable via the SD card slot.
This phone doesn't even have a water or dust resistance rating.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite has a large 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. It's sharp, has excellent colours and can be both very bright and very dim, which are welcome features you'll want when you're either in the sun or in bed or half asleep.
The screen also has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is double that of conventional smartphones, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. And indeed, everything looks very smooth - whether we're talking about the Android interface and its little transitions, or a game that supports a higher refresh rate. It's a remarkable difference from my 60 Hz iPhone.

However, Xiaomi has kindly given us the option to switch to a more traditional 60Hz refresh rate if you want to save a bit of battery life at the expense of apparent smoothness.
We've even got Dolby Vision and HDR10+ on this display, so supported content looks exceptionally contrasty and is much brighter in bright spots. Say you're watching a video of a sunset behind the mountains - they'll be dark and the sun behind them will look very bright - that's HDR10+ for you. Things can really stand out drastically and it's beautiful, especially in movies that support it.
Overall, the Xiaomi 12 Lite has a very impressive, large, vivid and smooth display for the price range.
Well, except for maybe one thing - durability. Xiaomi claims that the display is coated with Gorilla Glass 5, but I had faint scratches on it after just 5 minutes of putting the Xiaomi 12 Lite in my pocket with the iPhone 12 mini. I often carry two phones in one pocket and I've never had one of them get scratched, much less so quickly.
Again - it has very faint scratches, but it doesn't matter because because of this it is no longer a pristine "new phone" and I'm a little disappointed at how easily this happened.
I'm not sure about the supposedly glass screen, but if you buy this phone, get the screen protector ready beforehand. Don't remove it right away like I did. Now let's take a look at the rough specs of the device
